Caring for birds this winter
It is always a joy to see birds visiting our gardens and outdoor spaces and as winter approaches, there are ways you can supplement their diet during these harsh months. Extra feeding can mean the difference between life and death as birds struggle to find food and water in frozen conditions.
Hanging feeders and providing fresh, clean water is beneficial to our feathered friends, especially during the colder months. If you do not have any feeders then start with one to encourage birds in and then increase the amount as more visitors arrive in your garden. Using different types of feeders in different locations with a variety of food will encourage a wider range of visitors. Remember that some birds are ground or table feeders and scattering seed on a wall top, bird table or even across the lawn will cater for their needs.
Choose energy rich food containing suet, nuts, oil rich seeds such as sunflower seeds and dried fruit. The Good Soil Gardener Pot Feeder contains a premium mixture of seeds bound in a vegan-friendly suet.
